The International Board of Governors provides strategic leadership for ILEA by shaping long-term priorities, developing initiatives, and advancing programs that support the global events community. As a working board, members collaborate to plan, guide, and execute projects that move the organization forward.
Regional Vice Presidents serve as key connectors between the international organization and local chapters. They support chapter leaders, foster collaboration across regions, and help advance ILEA initiatives at the regional level. By sharing best practices, mentoring volunteer leaders, and strengthening engagement, Regional Vice Presidents play an important role in supporting chapter success and ensuring alignment with ILEA’s global vision.
Together, the international leadership team plays a critical role in shaping the future of ILEA.
Expectations include:

Champion the Mission: Actively support and advance the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

Bring Your Expertise: Contribute your professional knowledge and perspective to guide decisions and strengthen outcomes.

Lead with Integrity and Accountability: Participate fully in meetings, review financials, exercise fiduciary oversight, and uphold the duties of care, obedience, and loyalty.

Strengthen the Community: Advocate for the organization, cultivate partnerships, and help grow membership, sponsorship, and industry engagement.

Show Up and Lead: Serve on at least one committee or task force, support leadership development, and participate in conferences and key organizational events.
All Board Members and Regional Vice Presidents are required to maintain active ILEA membership throughout their term of service.
2026-2027 ILEA International Leadership Positions
The ILEA Nominations Committee is seeking candidates to serve on the
International Board of Governors or as Regional Vice Presidents for the following positions:
International Officer
three (3) open positions

Open positions: Secretary, Treasurer and President-Elect

Term of office: one (1) year

Eligibility Requirements: Ideal candidates are present or past members of the Board of Governors.
International Director
up to four (4) 3-year term and one (1) 1-year term open positions

Term of office: three (3) years

Eligibility requirements: ILEA member of good standing who has served as a Chapter President, Chapter Board Member, International Committee Member, or has other high-level board or leadership experience.
Regional Vice President
one (1) open position

Open position: US Midwest

Term of office: one (1) year with an option for a second-year term

Eligibility Requirements: Ideal candidates are those who have served as a Chapter President.

Current RVPs who have served their first year and confirmed acceptance of the second-year term will be included on the election slate when presented to ILEA members.
Leadership Responsibilities + Commitment
EXECUTIVE OFFICERS
The Executive Officers (President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Immediate Past President) make up the Executive Committee and provide leadership and operational guidance for the organization. Working closely with the Board of Governors and ILEA staff, the Executive Committee helps move initiatives forward, oversee key decisions, and ensure alignment with the organization’s strategic direction.
Each officer plays a unique role in supporting the leadership and operations of the association:

President – Serves as the chief volunteer leader of the organization, guiding the strategic direction of ILEA, presiding over board and executive committee meetings, and working closely with staff and volunteer leaders to advance key initiatives and programs.

President-Elect – Supports the President, helps lead strategic initiatives, and prepares to assume the role of President in the following term, ensuring continuity in leadership.

Secretary – Oversees governance documentation and official records of the association, including meeting minutes and required notices, and helps ensure strong governance practices across the organization.

Treasurer – Provides financial oversight for the association, including reviewing budgets, financial reports, and fiscal practices to ensure responsible stewardship of the organization’s resources.

Immediate Past President – Provides continuity and counsel to the leadership team while supporting ongoing strategic priorities and mentoring emerging leaders.
BOARD OF GOVERNORS
The ILEA International Board of Governors provides strategic leadership for the organization and plays an active role in developing and advancing initiatives that support the global events community. This is a working board—members contribute their expertise, collaborate on projects, and help shape the future direction of the association. Board members serve three-year terms and are active participants in the organization’s work. In addition to attending board meetings, each member chairs an international committee, leads volunteer teams, and helps drive initiatives that support ILEA’s strategic priorities.
Board members are expected to:

Provide strategic input on the future direction of the organization

Chair an international committee and lead committee initiatives

Collaborate with fellow board members and staff on key projects and programs

Serve as ambassadors for ILEA within the global events community
Time Commitment: Serving on the Board of Governors requires an average commitment of 10–15 hours per month. Activities may include board meetings, committee leadership, working on task force initiatives, promoting ILEA programs and events, and collaborating with fellow leaders between meetings.
REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENTS
Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs) serve as the primary connection between ILEA’s international leadership and local chapters and affiliates. Representing their designated region, RVPs support chapter leaders, share best practices, and help ensure strong communication and alignment across the organization. RVPs play an important role in strengthening the member experience by supporting chapter success and fostering collaboration across their region.
Responsibilities include:

Serving as a liaison between regional chapters/affiliates and the International Board of Governors

Communicating ILEA initiatives and opportunities to chapter leaders

Supporting chapter presidents and leadership teams

Sharing best practices and fostering collaboration between chapters

Coordinating regional calls, meetings, and leadership engagement
Time Commitment: The time commitment for Regional Vice Presidents averages 5–10 hours per month. Activities may include supporting chapter leaders, attending chapter board meetings (virtually or in person), facilitating regional president calls, participating in monthly RVP meetings, and connecting chapters with international initiatives and opportunities.
International Nominations Committee
The international nominations process is led by the International Nominating Committee, whose mission is to ensure a transparent, equitable, and inclusive pathway to leadership within ILEA. They are committed to expanding and diversifying the pool of highly qualified candidates for international leadership roles, strengthening representation across our global community. Candidates for the International Board of Governors, Officers of the Board, and Regional Vice President positions are carefully reviewed and slated by the International Nominating Committee, and ultimately approved by ILEA membership.
